How to plan a personalised Morocco trip around your budget and interests

UK Morocco editorial team · · 5 min read

A step-by-step way to turn “somewhere warm and beautiful” into a route that fits your dates, your budget and what you love — using our free planner.

A good Morocco trip is rarely the one with the most stops; it is the one that matches how many days you have, what you enjoy and what you want to spend. This guide walks through a simple order of decisions — the same order our free trip planner uses — so you can build a realistic plan and understand what each choice does to the route and the budget.

Step 1: Decide how many nights you have

Start with time, because it limits everything else. In the planner you set your arrival date and the number of nights (from 1 to 21), and the return date follows automatically. As a rule of thumb from our planning data:

Changing the number of nights changes the route, the pace and the budget, and the planner shows you the effect as you go. If you need more than 21 nights, tell us in your request and we will work it out with you.

Step 2: Pick the places — or let the planner suggest

Choose up to five destinations, or skip this step and let the planner propose a classic route. It orders your stops along Morocco's natural travel circuit so you are not zig-zagging, and allocates nights to each place based on your dates and interests. Browse the destination guides to see what each place offers; our Marrakech guide is a good starting point.

Distance matters more than it looks. The road from Marrakech to the Sahara dunes is a very long day, while Marrakech to Essaouira is around three hours. Fewer stops usually means a more relaxed trip and a lower transport cost.

Step 3: Tell it what you love

The planner lets you choose from interests such as culture and medinas, history and architecture, food and cooking, nature and landscapes, adventure, hammams and wellness, souks and crafts, coast and beaches, and photography. It prioritises matching experiences and schedules them by time of day. A few pointers:

  • Culture and history: Fez, Marrakech and Rabat reward slow days.
  • Food: cooking classes in Marrakech and Fez, street-food walks and grilled fish at Essaouira's port.
  • Nature and adventure: the Atlas foothills, a camel trek in the Sahara dunes, surfing at Essaouira.
  • Wellness: a traditional hammam with a black-soap scrub, and a slower pace.
  • Photography: Chefchaouen's blue lanes and sunrise on the dunes.

Step 4: Set your budget and travel style

Enter a total budget for everyone on the ground in Morocco (flights are not included). The planner compares it with three styles — Essential, Comfort and Luxury — and tells you which fit. It also shows a per-person, per-night figure so you can sense-check your budget. Our Morocco budget guide explains what is behind those numbers.

As an illustration, for two travellers over seven nights in Marrakech and Essaouira the planner currently estimates about £865 at Essential, £1,887 at Comfort and £4,420 at Luxury in total. A budget of £2,500 would therefore cover the Comfort style comfortably, while £1,500 would point you to Essential or a shorter trip. These are indicative estimates, not quotes.

Step 5: Choose your pace

Pace controls how much you do each day. A relaxed pace leaves gaps for rest, a balanced one has a main activity in the morning and one later, and an active pace fits more in. If you are travelling in hot weather or with children or older relatives, relaxed is often the wiser choice.

Step 6: Read the result, then adjust

You will get a day-by-day plan with realistic transfers, stay types by style, an estimate in pounds and notes about the season and flights. If the plan is over budget, the planner suggests changes, such as switching style or visiting fewer places. Try different combinations: it is free, needs no sign-up and the estimate is what you can compare against your own expectations. Check the best time to visit and the practical guide for UK visitors before you finalise dates.

Step 7: Make it real

When you like a plan, you can share it, print it, or send it to our team with one click. The team refines the route with you, confirms live prices and availability and arranges stays, private drivers and licensed guides. Nothing is booked until prices and availability have been confirmed. You can also contact us directly with questions, special occasions, dietary needs or accessibility requirements.

What the planner does not do

  • It does not show live prices or availability — figures are estimates from our own research.
  • It does not include international flights, travel insurance, tips or personal shopping.
  • It cannot replace checking entry requirements: see the FCDO's Morocco travel advice before you book.
